Hornbill International Rock Contest to be discontinued from this year

To make the Hornbill Festival into a full fledged Music Festival, the "International Hornbill Rock Contest" will be discontinued from this year, said Theja Meru, Advisor of Task Force for Music and Arts, TaFMA.

This news may come as a shock and disappointment to all music lovers and specially for musicians/bands who looked forward to participate this year in one of the biggest Rock contest.

Addressing the media at symphony Cafe in Kohima here today, Meru said
"The reason for discontinuing the competition is because we feel the Hornbill competition has done it's time, everything has a share of life, we want to relaunch the festival".

Instead this year, the Hornbill Festival will have "The Great Hornbill Rock" and "Ticket to Hornbill," Meru said,

Also, keeping in line with the vision of the Chief Minister of Nagaland for an inclusive policy and giving maximum platform and opportunity to all local muscians, TaFMA will conduct a Statewide band audition under the aegis of "Ticket to Hornbill"- on 27 September, where the winner from each district will get an entry to perform at the Hornbill Music Festival and in The Great Hornbill Rock.

Meru also informed that as part of the Hornbill Music Festival and to attract the best of the best- Ticket to Hornbill will also be conducted for bands outside the state, in a few selected cities.

Hornbill Festival 2019 will also see an array of daily music acts and Kohima will have concerts in multi venues, Hotels, Cafes, halls for which brochures containing all details will be released soon.

TaFMA is also closing partnership deals with Gibson Guitar India, Rolling Stone India and Hard Rick Cafe for Hornbill Festival. The Advisor said all details of the followings will be released soon.

Apart from the activities of the Hornbill Festival, the Meru also informed that TaFMA will be conducting auditions for "Nagaland Choir Olympics" on 27 September for all the 11 districts, the grand finale will be held at RCEMPA, Kohima on 23rd Oct.

The Choir Olympic will also decide the fate of few musicians as the best of the best will be selected by TaFMA to form a Nagaland Choir who will represent Nagaland at the 11th World Choir Olympics in July 2020 at Belgium.

Meru said every attempt will be made to compete in the World Choir Olympics.
