Here’s why Bhaichung Bhutia shuts down his own United Sikkim Football Club

GANGTOK |Sept 22, 2019:

Former Indian Football Captain, Bhaichung Bhutia has announced the shutting down of his football club — United Sikkim Football Club (USFC) today.

He along with his co founders — Arjun rai and Sherab Lepcha announced this in a press conference.

"After a long and hard discussion we came on a painful decision," said Bhutia.

He stated that 15 years have been great with many challenges and difficult moments and he cherishes all the experiences with the players and colleagues.

Being the first Professional team from Sikkim and second from NE to play in ILegaue, the famous club from the Himalayan state was formed in 2004.

Stating the achievements of the club, he said that they could spot many talents including Komal Thatal. He stressed that more focus would be now on grassroot football.

They have thanked fans, coaches, players and everyone associated with USFC for the support they have shown throughout its journey.

"We want to focus on grassroot and take forward our cause. We hope to continue honing and discovering new talents in football," said Bhutia.

Talking about the challenges he faced, Bhaichung said that signing on big players, to bring sponsors and raising amount to finance the club was a problem.
