Three Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) out of 39 in Nagaland were selected for various awards in different categories of the Swachh Survekshan 2020, on August 20 via virtual Swachh Mahotsav programme organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Mokokchung town was awarded the "Cleanest City" in North East India under the 25 to 50 thousand population category, by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri.
Chumukedima under Dimapur District was awarded the "Best Self Sustainable City" under the 25 to 50 thousand population category and Pfutsero bagged the "Best City in Innovation and Best Practices" under the Population up to 25 thousand category.
Swachh Survekshan 2020, a cleanliness survey covering 4,242 cities, 62 Cantonment Boards, and 92 Ganga Towns based on their cleanliness quotient was completed in 28 days wherein a total of 129 top-performing cities and states were awarded by the Minister.
Advisor of Nagaland's Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, who attended the virtual programme of the 'Swachh Mahotsav 2020' at the State NIC Conference Hall at the Civil Secretariat, congratulated the three winning towns of Nagaland.
He stated that within a short period, three Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) out of 39 in the State were selected for the awards while terming it as a great achievement for Nagaland.
The Advisor pointed out that the achievement was possible due to the active participation of the citizens and congratulated them for their efforts.
He also expressed hope that there would be better participation from other ULBs of the State as well in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2021.
The virtual programme was also attended by Principal Secretary Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Himato Zhimomi, and other senior officers of the Department.
