Girl from Sikkim elected as Prime Minister of NIPC

GANGTOK | FEB 5, 2020:

Premkit Lepcha,a tribal girl from remote Dzongu,North Sikkim, has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of National Inclusive Parliament of Children (NIPC) on Monday. She has also been given the additional charge as Minister of Industry, innovation and infrastructure, one of the Sustainable development goals.

The oath taking ceremony was conducted on Tuesday, in the presence of Meena Kumar, former Speaker of Lok Sabha. The National Inclusive Children Parliament was organized by Nineis Mine Organization with Prime Ministers Of Child Parliaments from all over the country from 28th Jan-3rd Feb. 2020.

The programme also simultaneously conducted the training of the Coordinators who had accompanied the child Parliamentarians on the Sustainable development goals, election process & proceedings of Children Parliament.

Currently there have been 5 Village Level Child Parliaments formed in the GPUs of the District by the District Child Protection Unit, North district in coordination with the Village level Child Protection Committees which have been formed in all the GPUs.

The DCPO informs that the target is to form these village level Children's Parliaments in all the GPUs so that children of the most rural areas will get a forum to address their issues and voice their opinions and to take active participation in the Gram Sabhas and all other community decisions and policy making. Thereafter the target is to form Block level Children's Parliaments in all the 4 blocks and one District level Children's Parliaments in the district.
