GANGTOK | JUNE 25, 2020:

Ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party has taken a strong exception to a fake picture of the Health Minister, MK Sharma, and the victims of the Singtam fire tragedy victims, being uploaded on social media.

The original picture reportedly showed an image of people, who were the victims of the recent fire tragedy at Singtam Bazar holding a cheque, which was handed over to them by the government as a relief.

The altered picture showed the victims holding the cheque which reads, "We Support MK Sharma."

Recently, there was a rumour on internal conflicts within the SKM party, which was later refuted by the party. In a scathing attack, SKM held a press conference alleging that the opposition SDF party of creating and circulating the fake picture on Facebook.

Minister MK Sharma said that spreading misinformation on such sensitive matters through fake profiles is condemnable and people involved should be punished.

Meanwhile, SKM Spokesperson, Jacob Khaling said, "This is a serious matter as it involved victims of fire tragedy and the minister. It has defamed everyone involved."

Another leader of the ruling SKM, Navraj Gurung added, "SDF Social Media, after losing power, has hit a new low. The once so active SDF social media is under hibernation now and this is why you see fake IDs working for SDF social media."

The victims of the fire tragedy, who were also present in the press conference, have jointly condemned the incident.
