AGARTALA | AUG 25, 2020:

The state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M), Tripura, Gautam Das, alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has left the Tripura police in a helpless situation while attempting to restore law and order situation due to severe intimidation from the ruling party.

Addressing the media at the party's state headquarters, Das referred to the back to back incidents that have taken place in which CPI(M) party activists were assaulted and hospitalized.

"No arrests were made. The ruling party leaders, in their hurry to turn Tripura into a Fascist state, repeatedly targeted police personnel," Das said.

"In Chwamanu, Ampi, Amarpur, a countless number of CPI(M) leaders were attacked. Their houses were ransacked and no immediate action was taken by the police," he said.

Das also stated that when it comes to the lodging of FIRs, the party's woman leader Lipika Chowdhury had to move the High Court to bring it to the attention of the police.

"This is the first time in the history of Tripura that the judiciary was needed just to lodge an FIR," Das said.

The CPI(M) leader also announced that the party will organise a massive public outreach programme on August 26 in Agartala and other parts of the state.

The programme will be held across the state highlighting a 16-point charter of demands according to the party's central committee.
