Assam Rifles troops denied entry into Mizoram for “safety” reasons

AIZAWL | AUG 20, 2020:

A team of 15 Assam Rifles personnel were allegedly denied entry by the officials of the Mizoram government as the latter justified that the same was done in line with the protocols issued by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

However, the Assam Rifles personnel have termed it as a violation of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines allowing unhindered movement of troops for security reasons.

Secretary of Mizoram Home Department, Zaihmingthanga, said that a team of 15 Assam Rifles personnel under its Sector 23 stationed at Aizawl refused to comply with the entry and medical-screening protocols at Vairengte in Kolasib district, a border entry point, and forced their entry into the state at around 3.30 pm."

He added, "The state government is extremely cautious about the entry of residents and non-residents. Moreover, statistics show that Assam Rifles is reported to be the second-highest of COVID-19 positive cases."
