Assam Elections 2021: Party chiefs urge workers to unite and back BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance candidates

The National Democratic Alliance comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), on March 7 pledged to extend support to all candidates of the alliance to accomplish its mission of bagging “100 plus” seats in the ensuing Assam Assembly elections.

In a joint press conference addressed by the party chiefs, Ranjeet Kumar Dass (state BJP), Atul Bora (AGP) and Pramod Boro (UPPL), the alliance partners announced that the party workers would unite to support the candidates of the three parties.

Appealing to the BJP party workers to extend all help to the AGP candidates in the ensuing polls and the AGP workers to help the other alliance candidates, AGP president Bora said that in the greater interest of defeating the Congress-led “Mahajot”, there must be an understanding at the grass-root level so that no misinformation is spread among the alliance party workers.

“Obviously, there will be give-and-take situations in a pre-poll alliance. There will be grievances regarding seat sharing… We have discussed this aspect threadbare and released that it is imperative to make things clear at the grass-root level,” he said.

Recalling the alliance with BJP ahead of the 2016 Assembly polls, the AGP president said the regional party had won 18 seats after contesting in 24 constituencies while engaging in friendly contests in four constituencies.

Highlighting the achievements of the “BJP-AGP” government, Bora said that over the past five years, the alliance government has brought about a development in various sectors, be it schemes for the physically challenged or empowering women.

“Fifteen years of Congress in the state has seen misrule and corruption… But the BJP-led alliance government has achieved a lot… and if we are given more time, we promise to make Assam one of the strongest states in the country,” he claimed.

AGP will contest 26 seats while UPPL will contest from eight seats.

BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass expressed confidence that the saffron party and its allies, AGP and UPPL, were working towards achieving its mission of bagging 100 plus seats in the coming elections.

“We seek your blessings for success in the ensuing polls. I also appeal to our party workers to help the AGP and UPPL candidates triumph in the 34 seats that have been given to the alliance partners,” Dass said.
