DIBRUGARH:

Taking a jibe at All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badruddin Ajmal, North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Ajmal will set up madrassas in Assam instead of opening engineering colleges and universities if their party comes to power.

Addressing the gathering during a poll rally in Dibrugarh for Lahowal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Binod Hazarika, Sarma said, “If the Grand alliance government comes to power they will set up madrassas in Assam. If our government is voted to power, we will open engineering colleges and universities to produce doctors and engineers. So, you decide to whom you will vote this time.”

“In the last five years, the BJP has done a lot of developmental work in Assam which the Congress could not during their rule. Fifteen years of Congress rule in Assam, they were involved in petty politics, but in the last five years we can see enough changes in Assam,” Sarma said.

Sarma also campaigned for Chabua Asom Gana Parishad candidate Punakon Baruah, Duliajan incumbent MLA Terosh Gowala and Naharkatia BJP candidate Taranga Gogoi.
