Assam: 1st edition of Dudhnoi Champions Trophy concludes

The first edition of the Dudhnoi Champions Trophy, held at the Udaipur playground in the town of Dudhnoi in Goalpara, Assam concluded today with Club 4ty being crowned the winners.

The cricket championship, which began on January 5 this year, saw teams from both the states of Assam and Meghalaya vie for the prize money of Rs 35,000 that was up for grabs.

The runners up, New Dudhnoi Cricket Club (NDCC) took home Rs 25,000.

The tournament was held in a knockout format and organised by Club 4ty at the Udaipur playground.  

24 teams, with 7 being from Meghalaya, took part in the tournament.

The final match today was witnessed by the CEM of the RHAC, Tankeswar Rabha, vice chairman, Rama Kanta Rabha, Games and Sports EM, Aditya Rabha, besides many top leaders of the ARSU.

The final saw NDCC winning the toss and deciding to chase as they have been the chasing team in the tournament, winning close matches against two of the tournament favourites – Young Blue of Dudhnoi and Evergreen Club of Goalpara.

Club 4ty had a rather easy ride to the finals, outclassing all opponents on their route to the finals.

Upananda Nath, who is also the captain of NDCC was adjudged the player of the tournament for his 102 runs and 8 wickets, while the best innings went to NDCC’s Bhrigu Deka who single-handedly won his team the match against tournament favourites – Evergreen Goalpara through his 68 of 29 balls after going in at number 10.

“We are extremely happy for the support the tournament has received locally and in Meghalaya. Hopefully next year will be a bigger draw and a bigger prize,” said one of the organisers, Dilip Dutta.
