Seven dead, 60 infected by new infectious disease in China

With COVID-19 on the rise, a new infectious disease caused by a tick-borne virus — (name of the virus )has reportedly emerged in China, killing seven people and infected at least 60 others, an official reported on Wednesday.

The officials have been warning about the possibility of its human-to-human transmission and more than 37 people in East China's Jiangsu Province contracted the SFTS (full form) Virus in the first half of the year.

A woman hailing from Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, who had suffered from the virus, showed the onset of symptoms such as fever and coughing.

Doctors found a decline of leukocyte, blood platelet inside of her body. However, after a month of treatment, she was discharged from the hospital.

A report said that due to the virus, seven people have died in Anhui and East China's Zhejiang province. SFTS Virus is not a new virus. China has isolated pathogens of the virus in 2011, and it belongs to the Bunyavirus category.

As per Virologists, the infection may have been passed onto humans by ticks and that the virus can be transmitted between humans.

Meanwhile, a doctor from the first affiliated hospital under Zhejiang University, Sheng Jifang, said that the possibility of human-to-human transmission could not be excluded; patients can pass the virus to others via blood or mucous.

Doctors warned that tick bite is the major transmission route and as long as people remain cautious, there's no need to panic over such virus contagion, it said.
