WATCH | 8 GNLA Cadres officially surrender before Meghalaya Home Minister today

In a major boost to the Meghalaya police, eight GNLA cadres today surrendered along with their arms and ammunition in the presence of Home Minister James K Sangma at the formal Surrender Ceremony of the GNLA which was held Conference Room, DGP's Office, Police Headquarters, Shillong.
The home minister in his speech today welcomed the 8 (eight) senior cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) who yesterday came out and decided to give up arms and join the mainstream.
The surrendered GNLA cadres include Hedison M Sangma (24 yrs), Barningstone S Sangma (24 yrs), Thangkham Ch Momin (30 yrs), Kuibirth S Sangma (22 yrs), Rahul S Sangma (25 yrs), Timbil Ch Marak (25), Chonbirth CH Marak (18 yrs), Sujit B Momin (21 yrs) and handed over arms to the police including AK-56, INSAS Rifle, 9 mm pistol, Glock-19, SMG, 303 rifle, Air pistol etc.
The GNLA cadres in a short interaction with reporters said that they have joined the GNLA for Garo Land but they left the organization to lead a normal life again.
One of the GNLA cadres, Timbil CH Marak @ Churik however said that Sohan D Shira was directly shot from behind and there was no exchange of gun fight between them and the police.
Churik who was  present the day Sohan was shot dead  said that he was from quite a distance where the incident took place and that it was not an encounter but direct hit from behind.
