Tripura: Youth Congress vice president steps down after poll defeat

TNT Desk | Agartala, March 12, 2018:

Following the poor performance of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Tripura Assembly election, a leader of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC), Hollywood Chakma tendered his resignation as the party vice president on Monday.

As per the resignation letter submitted to TPYC president Susanta Chakraborty, Chakma said that his decision to quit the post of vice president taking moral responsibility for the poor results of INC in the state of Tripura and especially in his constituency –Chawmanu where the Congress lost badly by a huge margin of votes.

However, he stated that he has resigned from the post but not from the primary membership of the party and maintained that he shall remain a Congressman forever.

"I feel I have failed as a leader and also to understand the people's pulse who all voted for a change," Chakma said in the letter.

Meanwhile, Chakma expressed his gratitude to the party and its leaders stating "I have learned a lot by being in the organisation and also received lots of love and respect from the party — office bearers and our workers."

It may be mentioned that in the just concluded Assembly polls in Tripura, the Congress suffered a major blow and could not win even a single seat.

Similarly, Congress also witnessed the same political nightmare in Nagaland which prompted its state party president K Therie to offer resigning from the post, the same of which was rejected by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).
