Tripura: Sudip Roy Barman and 5 other MLA’s expelled from TMC for not voting for Meira Kumar
Agartala, July 3, 2017: In a clear and strong message to the Sudip Roy Barman and 5 other MLA's, the trinamool congress (TMC) has decided to expel them from the party.
These 5 MLA's were also expelled from the congress a year ago for similar anti party activities. Yesterday it may be mentioned that these 5 MLA's had decided to go against the party decisions and vote for the BJP led candidates in the upcoming Rashtarapati elections. In what only seems to be a major success for BJP in Tripura, six MLAs from Trinamool Congress have said that they wouldn't vote for opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar.
Over the last few months there has been murmur that despite strong objections from the state local BJP unit these rebel MLA's would be joining the saffron brigade. With this expulsion it has become clear that Sudip Roy Barman and his 4 other MLA's will be joining the BJP in a few months time.
Speaking on this expulsion the working cong president Pradyot Manikya Deb Burman has said that these MLA's who cannot live without power will keep on looking for greener pastures while this may be an internal matter of another political party it would be ill advised for any national party to welcome them back into their fold.
Speaking to reporters at the Pradesh Trinamool Congress Bhawan here this afternoon, TMC leader Sudip Roy Barman said that they were yet to reach any final decision about whom they would vote for in the coming President election. The leadership would convene a meeting on June 05 and finalize on the future course of action, he said.
The leaders were however, clear about the stand that they wouldn't vote for Meira Kumar.
However, sources close to Roy Barman revealed that the lobby, which is now expelled from Trinamool Congress according to reports from Kolkata, have already unanimously agreed to vote for BJP's candidate for the next President of Indian Union – Ramnath Kovind.
"We had left Congress over a year back due to their policy of compromise with the left parties. Now the opposition has again rallied up to stage Meira Kumar as a candidate for the post of President of India with left sponsorship. We are opposed to this idea", Roy Barman said.
They also said that TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had largely sided from her initial opposition to the communists and were working with them on several significant political issues.
On the other hand, Congress MLA and former opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath today said that he too would voite for Ramnath Kovind in the election for President of India.
"In my personal opinion, Shri Kovind is a better candidate than Meira Kumar for the position of the President of India. Besides, no party can impose a whip on anybody for the Presidential election", Nath said.
Ratan Lal Nath and Trinamool Congress MLAs have been long speculating to join BJP for quite some time now.
According to media reports, the Kolkata-based Trinamool headquarters today expelled the incumbent TMC leadership of Tripura. When asked about the issue, Roy Barman said that they didn't receive any official communication to this end.
