‘The Umlyngka murder case’ takes a twist; police suspects rape and murder

SHILLONG, January 15, 2018: One year passed by 'The Umlyngka murder case', where a 16-year-old girl who was brutally murdered in Upper Shillong has taken a twist, police are suspecting the victim being raped and murdered. In the year 2016, the girl went missing from her house on July 24 same year and later, on 29 July her dead body was found from Damsite, Umiam.

As per reports earlier, the victim's family had said that she came out after she received a phone call. Meanwhile the post mortem report was indecisive; Hyderabad FSL report is still on the pause.

SPill Thamar, SP Shillong said that a missing case was first registered and subsequently the kidnapping under Section 365 of the IPC was added in the year 2016.

According to Thamar the investigation is yet to be completed and around 60 persons were questioned regarding the case. The girl's hair was burnt and her face was partially burnt which rise suspicion about the murder angle.

SP also said, "It appears that there is a rape and murder angle which is being looked into". The Charge sheet for the case will be filed soon said the police officer.
