Ten reasons that draw people towards smoking

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe.

The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide, including 600,000 of which are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

Here are 10 reasons why the youth of today are drawn to this killer life style from an early age:

STRESS: This is one of the vital reasons that force many people to reduce their stress level and make them relieved. They believe that smoking helps them to deal with problems or anxieties.

ADDICTION: When people smoke for long years, their bodies adjust with the nicotine present in cigarettes and they feel the urge for smoking.

PSYCHOLOGICALLY DEPENDENT: Many people are psychologically dependent on smoking to keep them calm. It helps them to cope with problematic situations.

ADVENTURE: The teenagers mainly try to experience how it feels when one smokes. They feel good when they try it for the first time, and if they stick to it, they become habituated.

SOCIAL INTEGRATION: One forms the habit of smoking during social integration. When others are smoking in and around you, either you will feel like smoking or, you will be bound to smoke to mix with the gathering. Later, sometimes, the social smokers turn into active smokers.

TO FEEL RELAXED: For many people, smoking is just another amusement of giving relaxation. People having problems in social, economic, conjugal life prefer smoking to keep them relaxed.

TRYING TO 'BE COOL': Most teenagers opt for smoking to look 'cool'. They do it mostly to pose as 'mature guys' in front of their friends or female counterparts.

TO THINK DEEPLY: One feels that smoking helps their brain to think more sharply. They feel that smoking helps them to concentrate and makes their mind think better.

NO REASON, JUST 'LOVE TO SMOKE': For some people, there is no such valid reason to smoke. They say like any other hobby or passion, they also have strong obsession for smoking.

IMITATING OTHERS: It happens among the youngsters when they see their adults or senior smoking for the first time. Even they accept it warmly when they see celebrities smoking in movies.
