Nagaland: Governor asks CM to obtain vote of confidence by July 15

KOHIMA, July 11 2017: Amidst political drama in the state, the Governor PB Acharya has directed Chief Minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu to obtain vote of confidence by July 15, sources informed.

While the Governor is yet to official announce his decision, all eyes are set on former Chief Minister TR Zeliang to take over the reigns from Dr. Shurhozelie.

Zeliang who met the Governor in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh had submitted a letter of support of 37 MLAs to form the new government.

The third power struggle within National People's Front (NPF) started with the appointment of the CM's son as Advisor to the chief minister though some viewed this imbroglio as an attempt of the NPF rebels to prevent Dr Shurhozelie from contesting the upcoming by-poll to the 10-Northern Angami constituency on July 29.

More than 40 NPF legislator are presently camping in a resort in Assam's Kaziranga in a show of rebellion against Shurhozelie.

Zeliang said that his group will check out of the Kaziranga resort and go to Kohima if Shurhozelie does not resign and the governor calls for a floor test.

Come July 15 and the state is set to witness yet another drama in the floor of the house.
