Nagaland: ‘Dimapur’s erratic power supply due to over-stressed system’, says dept

DIMAPUR, June 26, 2018: In connection to the erratic power supply in the last few days in Dimapur, the Executive Engineer, Dimapur Electrical Division, Er Imsenkaba on Monday issued a press statement citing a number of reasons and situations which has led to the irregular power supply.

According to the EE, Dimapur Electrical Division, the incomer circuit breakers at the Metha sub-station became defective on June 24 at 2pm affecting the DBC feeder, ADC feeder, PWD feeder, Dobhinala feeder, Town (Metha) feeder and Thahekhu feeder. The feeder could be restored only at 7:30pm.
On June 23, a shut-down of power house sub-station as published in the local papers was undertaken from 5am to 10am for replacement of switch gear in the control room.

Although a new 100 MVA transformer is being installed at 132 kV Nagarjan sub-station, load shedding would have to be imposed due to system constraints at downstream lower voltage levels such as 33/11 kV sub-stations and distribution transformers, the EE said.

Further, due to rapid increase in load demand in Dimapur and Chumukedima areas, the power system is being overstressed, the EE pointed out. It therefore said the department was unable to keep up with the up-gradation of the infrastructure for which there is frequent interruptions caused due to snapping of distribution lines, break-downs of distribution transformers and sub-station switchgears particularly during peak summer months.

Also maintaining that the department is doing everything possible under the circumstances, the EE stated that under the Government of India's Integrated Power Development Scheme, the switchgears are being replaced along with up-gradation and installation of new distribution transformers in some of the locations.

The department is also coming up with 10 MVA, 33/11 kV sub-station at Forest colony which will relieve the overloaded Metha sub-station, the EE revealed further, while appealing the consumers to kindly bear with the department.
