Mizoram: State EC announces date for rural by-poll to three village councils

AIZAWL, June 8, 2018: The Mizoram election commission on Thursday announced that the by-election to three village councils under the Lai Autonomous District Council in south Mizoram will take place on June 26.

The three village councils are Ngenpuikai, Thingkah and Damlui.

Nominations should be filed by June 13, a statement from the election commission said. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 15. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 14.

Counting of votes will be held on June 26, soon after the polling is over.

Repoll, if required, will be held on June 27. The executive body is scheduled to be formed by June 28.

The byelection was necessitated following dissolution of Damlui village council and because of the demise of a member each in Ngenpuikai and Thingka village councils.
