Meghalaya IRS Call Centre Scam: 12 people arrested in two weeks

SHILLONG, September, 09, 2017: At least 12 people have been arrested in connection with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) call centre scam of which police suspects to be a network of scamsters spread across the country.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP, Davis R Marak on Sunday said that they have so far arrested 12 people including two from Jaintia Hills in connection with this scam.

Recently, the police have arrested two more people in Jaintia Hills identified as Dawanemi Lyngdoh (23 years old) of Ladmuthlong-Lumbyrdi and Minot Khongkai (25 years) of Amlarem-Padu in West Jaintia Hills.

When asked whether the police would question Tura MP, Conrad K Sangma in this case, he said that questioning of Sangma will depend on the progress of the investigation of the case.

"As and when required we might question the Tura MP," East Khasi Hills SP said.

When asked if there is any lead against the Tura MP, Marak said that he would not like to comment anything on this.

It may be mentioned that the police might questioned the Tura MP as to how the call centre was established in the premises of the SS Netcom.

Earlier, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh that the police might even coordinate with the Interpol to take the investigation of the IRS call centre into its logical end.
