Meghalaya | A day after the accident, Rector’s condition still ‘critical’

The Rector of Sacred Heart Theological College, Fr. James Poonthuruthil who was critically injured in an accident at Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday afternoon is still undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS hospital in Shillong even as doctors maintained that his condition is still critical though his Blood Pressure has gone up to normal thereby removing the dangers from his heart.

On Monday, doctors conducted an operation where they removed a part of the skull to treat the brain, to prevent it from swelling and from hemorrhages. The blood clot has been removed and remains of bleeding cleaned. Doctors stated that bleeding is under control and BP is stable. It was informed that another CT scan to start further treatment will be done.

The 63-yr old priest was critically injured after his vehicle (Nano car) rammed into a stationary truck in Nongpoh on Sunday afternoon. Fr James was supposed to travel to Guwahati.

The reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained and the police probe is on.
