Shillong Nov 6,2017: The training of the 3rd Basic Course of recruits at the Central Training Institute of Civil Defence & Home Guards, Meghalaya commenced today.
The Course is made up of 66 recruits out of which 51 are male guardsmen and allied ranks such as Despatch Riders, Bandsman, Fireman, Bugler and Drivers while 10 are female guardsmen. The rest 6 recruits are all Non Combatant Employee comprising of two cobblers, one chowkidar, one carpenter and one tailor.
These recruits hail from the nooks and cranny of the state having qualified for this training after a comprehensive recruitment test comprising of physical, medical, written and personal interview. The recruitment test conducted under the Transparent Recruitment Policy (TRP) was outsourced to a private firm from Hyderabad.
The recruits of the 3rd Basic Course were trained for a period of six months under a comprehensive training regime consisting of Physical Training, Drill and Arms drill, Weapons Training and Firing, Field Craft and Battle Craft, Security Operations and Basics of Law, Social Etiquettes and Orientation on Civil Defence & Home Guards etc. This training course was designed specifically with an aim to produce a well rounded, discipline, efficient and trained constabulary who will carry out and implement their orders to the best of their ability.
The Institute located in the quite suburbs of Shillong is a good setting for moulding these future foot soldiers of the Department of Civil Defence and Home Guards. The institute boast of a good parade ground, our obstacle course is almost done and clean and hospitable environment conducive for health. The training faculty headed by our Commandant who himself has attended almost all the training in Nagpur leads a team of directly recruited gazetted officers and JCOs who were trained in the prestigious NEPA. Our instructors apart from being trained in this institute has attended specialised training in Police Training School.
