SHILLONG: A young footballer from a small village of Laitlyngkot is all nervous yet confident in his ability to make his state and the country proud in the 2017 U-16 AFC Cup scheduled to be held at Iran.

The young lad, Ricky John Shabong hails from Laitlyngkot village in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. He is the son of Timothy Khongsam bad ka ka kong Ialin Shabong.

Thanks to his talents in the football field! Shabong has been selected among other boys from across the country, to represent India in the U-16 AFC Cup to be held at Iran in 2017.

Attributing his venture in this sport to his determination and love for football, Shabong said that his journey was not easy. It was his love for the game and determination to reach to higher levels which prompted him to perform better and now he is being given a chance to represent the country in an international match.

"My heartfelt thanks go to my coaches who have led the way ever since I was playing with Royal Wahingdoh FC," he said adding that his gratitude also goes to his parents who have been very supportive in his venture.

Shabong was also facilitated by the United Democratic Party (UDP) Iewshyllong Unit recently for his achievements at the closing ceremony of the 1st MLA Cup Football Tournament at Elaka Laitlyngkot football ground.

It may be reminded that earlier this year, the All India Football Federation has selected Ricky Shabong and two others to attend the Trials Camp for the U-14 National Team to be held in Bhopal held on March 21 to May 31.
