Manipur:IED Blast an attempt to instil fear before Sangai Festival
Sangai Festival is one of the most popular events in the state with many residents and tourists flocking the state

Sangai Festival is one of the biggest events in Manipur and considered to be an attraction which highlights all the positive aspects of the state. However there have been attempts to destabilise this event by concerted groups as the build up to the Sangai Festival comes closer by the day.

With the situation quite grim and the divide between the valley and hills in the forefront, this festival was supposed to be a breath of fresh air,or at least thats what sane voices in Manipur would of hoped for.

Not anymore despite heavy security measures taken up ahead of the Festival, unidentified miscreants exploded a bomb, suspected to be an IED, in a house at Mahabali Makha Leikai, just about a 100 meters away from the venue of the tourism fair

The Owner of the house identified as Asiho Kahmei (60), a driver of Manipur police, received minor head injury in the blast but is considered out of danger and subsequently released from the Hospital

The bomb was planted and exploded right under the wooden staircase of the house.

Half of the wooden staircase, main wooden entrance door, CGI sheet roof and other material kept inside the house were damaged in the blast. It is yet to be determined how the explosive was planted inside the residence of Asiho Kahmei.People from the locality stated that since no one is allowed to enter the venue after dark it seems like an IED may have been used.

This is indeed a concern for the authorities as many residents flock the Festivals apart from this many VIP,celebrities have been invited for the event.

It is also said that the Chinese Ambassador has also agreed to grace this festival this year.

The Manipur State Home Department had called up 16 additional commando teams from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts to enhance security of the twin capital districts ahead of Manipur Sangai Festival.

The police have not ruled out anything and have said that they will brief the media only after the full investigation is through. The administration has also stated that this may be some mischief by some group to garner publicity or install fear in the minds of the people of the state.
