Manipur: Highway crime on the rise with another abduction attempt in NH2

Imphal, May 2: In another unwanted highway crime along NH-2, a 709 Tata truck ferrying farm chicken boiler towards Imphal was attempted for abduction shockingly near the same place where convoys' tankers are frequently attacked this morning.

Despite beefing up security forces along the particular route after the twin attacks of oil tankers on April 18 and April 30 morning inflicting injury and damage to drivers and vehicles, the unknown miscreants daringly attempted to abduct the truck bearing registration number NL-01-L-4501 which was heading towards Imphal at around 9:30 am.

However, police commando personnel reportedly rescued the vehicle and the driver while unknown miscreants ran away after seeing the security forces coming for rescue into the jungle crossing the Imphal River.

The unknown miscreants also reportedly took away Rs. 3600 in cash from the driver of the truck.

According to Bijoy, driver of the truck, he was travelling with his two assistant when around six persons armed with stone stopped them after crossing S Golai along the NH-2 in between S Changoubung and Kangpokpi DHQs and asked him to come down from the vehicle.

He continued, "I came down from the vehicle out of fear and those miscreants attempted to abduct me while frisking all my body and seized all the money I have in my pocket. But they ran away from the spot seeing the security forces approaching us."

Later, the security personnel deployed in the area brought the vehicle and drivers along with the two assistant till Kangpokpi police station and they were escorted from Kangpokpi police station towards Imphal.

The vehicle belongs to one Victor of Khonghampat, who is a notable generous person advocating sociable relation with all communities of the state.

FIR has been lodged at Kangpokpi police station in connection with the case while police are on the lookout for the culprits conducting search operation in the areas till late evening.
