After the Congress managed to secure a thumping victory in Ampati by polls, the party is now the single largest party in Meghalaya. Congress's candidate Miani D Shira, daughter of former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma won the seat by over 3191 votes.

Former Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma breathed a sigh of relief after his daughter managed to retain Ampati seat, which her father had held for the past 25 years.

By the end of the fifth and last round, the Congress has emerged victorious and won the Ampati seat by over 3191 votes. Total votes count of the INC is 14259 while NPP candidate managed to secure 11068 votes. Independent candidate, on the other hand, got only 360 votes and NOTA only 208.
