GUWAHATI: Assam Year Book 2016, the first year book in Assamese, has hit the stands. With almost all the facts, figures and other relevant information about Assam, the year book has been compiled and edited by Santanu Kaushik Baruah, who is known for his expertise in books and compilation of information in Assamese.
With 101 chapters full of varied information, the year book has covered the State's geography, biodiversity, fauna and flora, medicinal and aromatic plants, history, social system, food-dress-cosmetics, festivals and rituals, agriculture and economy, population statistics, transport-connectivity, films, distinguished personalities, well-known organisations, state administration, districts and their details, language-literature-newspapers, art, sculpture and architecture, music and dance, sports, ethnic diversity, Assam-related websites, tourism, career courses, and many other subjects related to Assam.
The massive volume has also included brief descriptions of more than 2,500 events and subjects from 1500 BC to present-day Assam. It also contains five special write-ups by different authors, more than 150 tables, hundreds of photographs and other notes.
The year book is published by Jyoti Prakashan. Pritima Kaushik Baruah, Netrakamal Goswami, Dr Mridusmita Phukan, Abhijeet Sarma Baruah, Devajit Phukan, among others, are also associated with the project in different capacities.
