England out of Euro 2016 as underdogs Iceland beat them 2-1
The last two matches of the round of 16 saw Spain take on Italy. The champions lost 2-0 to Italy who were clearly the better side through out the match. Spain had very few chances and would have conceded more goals if not for goalkeeper David De Gea. Defender Giorgio Chiellini score in the 33rd minute. Italy kept pushing forward and at half time they were still 1-0 up. The second half was more or less the same as Spain could not break the Italian defence with Gigi Buffon proving why he's one of the greatest as he saved every shot hit on goal. Graziano Pelle made it 2-0 with an assist from sub Matteo Darmian in the 91st minute. That was the final nail in Spain's casket as the champions are out of Euro 2016.
The final game if the round saw England vs Iceland. England were pipped as the dark horses of the competetion but the English side lost to a team who see themselves as the Leicester City of the Euro.Raheem Sterling won a penalty in the 4th minute which Wayne Rooney successfully converted. the lead was however short-lived as Ragnar Sigurdsson equalized in the 6th minute. Kolbein Sigthorsson then score the second goal of the match in the 19th minute with an assist by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. The second half saw England push forward but to no avail as the Iceland defence stood strong and didn't allow any other goals it. The score at the end of the game was 2-1 with England knocked out of the competition.
The Quater Finals which will start on July 1 will thus see Poland vs Portugal,Wales vs Belgium, Germany vs Italy and hosts France will take on underdogs Iceland.
