Congress rebellion in 5 states including Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur
SHILLONG: Infighting and dissidence within the Congress party has reached new heights with ripples now spreading across 5 states.
With former Tripura Chief Minister joining TMC, 6 out of 9 Congress MLAs led by Ex CLP Leader are now in the other side of the fence.
Assam Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking about the trouble in Tripura said, "Tripura developments were much expected. The people of Northeast were tired of Congress, a party that failed to take care of Northeast." To add to this, the MLAs from Tripura feel that the only way Left Front could be tackled was in alliance with TMC.
Northeast which contributes 25 Lok Sabha seats to Northeast will soon see Congress have just 1 seat as per the aims of the BJP. "There are many people right from Meghalaya, Manipur and other states whom we are in touch and they will be joining BJP in the near future. In Manipur and Meghalaya we have both popular support and there is a turmoil within the party as well," Sarma added.
In Northeast the politics of the BJP is to work with alliance partners, hence the formation of Democratic Alliance. Himanta said they are working very closely with the regional parties in Meghalaya. He also said that close to 10 seats in the Civic elections in Manipur would also be a tremendous achievement.
Explaining the reason for defection, Himanta said that the people of Northeast cannot connect to Rahul Gandhi and hence there has been a withdrawal of cadres from the party.
