Beauty with a Purpose: This year's Miss Jowai Pageant paved the way for contestants to be ambassadors for the SVEEP in creating awareness among youth and the differently-abled to enroll and exercise their right to vote.

"Beauty with a Purpose" was this year's Miss Jowai pageant's focal point as organizers adopt a multi-pronged approach to provide opportunity not only to the aspiring models but also to lend a helping hands to the children of Little Angels School, Moosalyngkat Jowai in West Jaintia Hills.

In keeping with the theme, the organisers — Diza's Socio and Sports Club partnered with the Chief Electoral Office by encouraging all contestants to be ambassadors for the SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) campaign in creating awareness among youth and the differently-abled to enroll and exercise their right to vote.

The ambassadors will be participating in upcoming events throughout the year being organised by the Election Commission office.

The event, which was held at District Library, Mynthong in Jowai on October 2, witnessed the participation of many young girls; but out of all them, Lameca A. Passah from lumpyrdi, Iongpiah was crowned the beauty queen, while Asunta Papang of Mawkyndeng and Warisha Phyllei of Chilliangraij were the first and second runner-up respectively.

Lameca also won the Perfect 10 subtitle. Other winners for the subtitles were Ofelia Kyndait (Miss Congeniality), Asunta Papang (Picture Perfect), Warisha Phyllei (Most talented and People's choice). Jaintia Hills' Upcoming Designer was also chosen of which Nidaroi Syntem was adjudged the Winner.

The event was also filled with a range of entertainment and a fashion sequences by Darity Jana and Bryan Marak. Among the entertainers were songs by Stevie Kennedy Syiemlieh, Chewidonmi C. Khonglah, a Dance by Bobby Sangdiar, of Cheerapunji who enthralled the crowd with his performance. A kid's Fashion show which the kids from Little Angels School showcased the clothes from Le Bebe Shillong.
