Manipur: Boron Thokchom's "I Rise" wins best documentary at MSIFF

Boron Thokchom’s “I Rise” recently won the award for best documentary at the ninth Mumbai Short International Film Festival (MSIFF) 2020.

The Manipur-based director came up with the 52-minute long documentary film based on the life and times of ace Manipuri boxer Sarita Devi, an eight times Asian Championship medalist.

Earlier, the film bagged the Award for Best Film on Women, and the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Tagore International Film Festival 2020 in West Bengal.

The film was considered the best from a list of 19 documentary films comprising four films each from India and Spain, three from the United States, two each from Germany, France and others.

According to a press release issued by the Film Society of Manipur, a total of 392 films from more than 55 countries took part in the MSIFF this year and vied for awards in different categories.
