Following up from our last week's rap star Shawn Gideon Rani, this week TNT-The Northeast Today caught up with the Leo Boys.

The Leo Boys is a rap duo of Shillong, Meghalaya. Leo Boys comprises of emcees El deepo (Soumyadeep Dasgupta) and hulkyboyy (Sagnik Choudhury). The two are currently pursuing their respective postgraduate degrees in Kolkata. But that is not a hindrance for them to pursue their passion for rap music full-time.

The duo began their rap journey when they were in their fifth grade!

"But we first started writing our own lyrics when we were in class 10 in the year 2013," the Leo Boys say.

"We took to creating proper rap music in 2013 and put our initial songs out on ReverbNation which was then a happening platform for rappers who were starting off. Professionally speaking, we started rapping in 2017 where we put our first single out."

The duo have already established significant ground and are regularly invited for many shows, held either independently or as a part of college fests.

"Our first appearance in a rap show was back in 2017 and it felt amazing because all of our friends, with whom we grew up, were there to support us and we're forever grateful for that initial push. That made a lot of difference," they say.

"We've won a few prizes in inter college rap battles and stuff like that. But our real prize has been the experience really."

Having produced over 50 songs, including their debut album 'Resurrect,' the duo was inspired by artists such as Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, Wayne, J. Cole and Joyner Lucas.

They are currently working on their second album along with local rap artists including Shane, Yugi Beats, Meba Ofilia, D-bok, Dappest, Shawn and Nbk.

"The rap scene in the northeast has never been better. We got a lot of heat in the scene at the moment and we're sure that pretty soon the scene will be booming loud and clear around the whole country," they say.

Looking at the idea of rap as a form of expression, the Leo Boys believe that rap is all about bringing out "everything from the amazement to the pain" that one carries within.

"If you got an idea, believe in it and have the courage to make that idea into your reality. Along with effort and a lot of self believe, have faith in God and in yourself," they say as a message to fellow rappers.

The duo are launching their new album 'Homecoming' in January.
