Meghalaya | 1 million saplings for World Env Day: CM Conrad Sangma invites residents to take part

As World Environment Day approaches closer on June 5th, the state of Meghalaya is preparing itself for a massive plantation drive whereby one million saplings will be planted on the day.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has emphasised that every citizen of the state should nurture atleast one tree. The "Water Man"of India, noted water conservationist and winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award and the Stockholm Water Prize Rajendra Singh will also join Meghalaya on on June 5. The CM will also plant a tree on the occasion.

Meghalaya One Citizen One Tree ಅವರಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ಪೋಸ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಶನಿವಾರ, ಮೇ 18, 2019

The saplings will be planted on a single day in the areas near 300 spring sheds whose process of rejuvenation is being carried out by the soil and water conservation department. The project will near its completion in 2020 and the same is being combined with the initiative of tree plantation.

With regards to this, an astounding 7,09246 pits have been dug up so far until the filing of this report and the work continues on ground for successful implementation of "Meghalaya: One citizen, one tree"mission.

The mission is being implemented with an aim to conserve the state's water in catchment areas while also ensuring a sustainable environment. The aim is to plant 1000 trees per village in 10 villages at every block of the state.

25 localities from Shillong and Tura will be visiting 25 villages in each cathcment to celebrate World Environment Day with them. The plantation will also take place in schools and colleges.

All residents of Meghalaya are urged to partake in this one of a kind activity whereby everything (including commute and a sapling) has been arranged. All one has to do is decide to get to the site and plant a sapling.

There are two ways how you can participate in this activity:

*Visit the designated site, collect your material and start planting

*Visit any designated location at ant block of district, collect the required material and plant the sapling at a location of your choice.
