Manipur’s Tababi Devi Thangjam is the 1st judoka to win a medal for India at the Olympics

This teenager from Manipur has became India's first judoka to win an Olympic medal at any level. She added a second medal to India's tally at the 2018 Youth Olympics as she clinched a silver in women's 44 kg judo at the ongoing 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Tababi Devi is the Asian cadet champion in 2017 and won her second gold medal at the same level at the Cadet and Junior Asian Cup this year. At the continental level, she is a three-time champion according to the International Judo Federation website.

India have 46 athletes representing the country in 13 sports at the prestigious event catering to the youth. This is India's largest contingent at the Youth Olympics. India won two medals — a silver and a bronze — in the last Youth Olympics in 2014 in Nanjing in China.
