May 15, 2017: Right after Aizawl FC's very inspiring I-League title win, fans of the "People's Club" were hoping for yet another national trophy and with an inspiring run in the Federation Cup, it looked like a trip to the finals could be in the cards. However, Bengaluru FC had other plans as they Karnataka side rallied together a win to find themselves as one of the teams to play the finals. Bengaluru will now play against Mohun Bagan who would still be sore from coming so close to winning the I-League and they would definitely be hoping to add a trophy to this season's campaign.

Bengaluru knew going in that Aizawl would be a tough nut to crack and were more tactical. A penalty in the eight minute award to BFC as a result of a rash challenge by Brandon on Alwyn George saw Cameron Watson put away a goal. Aizawl's Mahmoud al Amna who has played a pivotal role in the team's I-League win was not given a lot of space. Striker Kamo Bayi also had many chances; however he failed to find the back of the net. Bengaluru were tight in defence and solid in the back with John Johnson winning the Man of the Match. However, in the dying minutes of the game, hope was rekindled for Aizawl FC who were awarded a penalty, however, Lalramchullova missed and that was it. The lone goal was enough for Bengaluru to make it to the finals and cut short Aizawl's dream to a second trophy in one season.
