Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary, the divine mercy and the redemption of Christians. The day is observed by Christians all over the world to remember the sacrifice of the son of God. But certain instances to have occurred on this day have been unfortunate and are still remembered for their tragic outcomes all over the world.


These stories range from murders to freak accidents, to Pan Am flights. Check out the list below:

** Airplane Crash in Puerto Rico

On Good Friday 1952, Pan Am Flight 526A from Puerto Rico to New York ditched and sank in San Juan seas, killing 52 passengers.


** Wal-Mart Shooting in Texas

On Good Friday 2012, an Austin, Texas police officer was shot dead by a drunk man with a semi-automatic pistol at a Wal-Mart.

** Deadly Earthquake in Alaska

The Good Friday Earthquake in 1964 was the most powerful recorded earthquake in the history of North America, with a magnitude of 9.2. It caused buildings to collapse and multiple tsunamis, with a death toll of 139 people.

** Fire in New Orleans

The Great New Orleans Fire of 1788 was neither great nor good. The Good Friday fire destroyed 856 out of the 1,100 structures that existed in the entire city.

** Car Crash in Pittsburgh

On Good Friday 2009, a retired priest crashed into churchgoers in Pittsburgh, injuring four people and killing an 89-year-old woman.
