It was in the year 2015 with the government of India realized the potential of Mizoram in the production of bamboo and assured of providing all the required support be helped to emerge as the 'bamboo state' of the country which will help generate revenue and employment in large numbers.
As you know, Mizoram (is one of the states of Northeast India, with Aizawl as its capital city. The name is derived from Mi (people), Zo (lofty place, such as a hill) and Ram (land), and thus Mizoram implies "land of the hill people".
Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. It became the 23rd state of India, a step above Union Territory, on 20 February 1987.

Bamboo forests cover a large extent of area in Mizoram. Around 57% of the geographical area of Mizoram is under Bamboo cover found at heights ranging from 400m – 1500m above mean sea level.
The State possesses the maximum percentage of its geographical area under bamboo forests as compared to other States of the country. Bamboo forests are most abundant in the five northern districts but are rare in the eastern and south eastern parts of the State, particularly in Champhai, due to high altitude. Most of the bamboo species occurring in the State are found between 400m to 1,500m altitude and their distribution is somewhat restricted to above 1,550m.
It may be mentioned that in 2015, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh had maintained that Mizoram can turn out to be a major source of not only furniture but also paper by harnessing its bamboo cultivation.
