All you need to know about Mizoram’s two-wheeler taxi service

In July 2016, the scenic state of Mizoram became the first hill state in the country to launch a two-wheeler taxi services, mirroring tourist-laden states like Goa.

Here, we take a look at all the things you need to know about the innovative service that has hit the streets of Mizoram:

#1 Under the service, any scooter or motorcycle, not older than two years can be used as a taxi after being issued a permit.

#2 The two-wheeler must be 125 cc or above and the driver should wear a yellow helmet (headgear) with 'Taxi' clearly written in red colour on the front side while the registration plate should also be of yellow colour.

#3 Two wheeler taxis charged passengers Rs 10 for the first kilometre and Rs 5 for every subsequent kilometer, as per the government fare structure.

#4 While the state of Goa has introduced the service for easier navigation for tourists, the state capital of Mizoram, Aizawl has implemented it in a bid to curb the notorious traffic snarls in the ciy.

#5 These two-wheelers have proven to be incredibly convenient as they have eased the pains of commuters and hasty passengers during the rush hours.

#6 The man behind the introduction of two wheeler taxi in the state is Mizoram transport minister John Rotluangliana.

#7 In just over a year, there are already around 500 two-wheeler taxis, helping the citizens in commuting as well as in employment.

#8 The success of the two-wheeler taxi in the state capital has prompted other district authorities to also demand their introduction in their areas.

The service and the way Mizoram has implemented it has proven to be incredibly helpful not only in controlling traffic but also in the transport and employment sectors and makes the state a prime example of how a service should not only be introduced but also properly implemented.
