Union minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of Jogighopa Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Bongaigaon, Assam today. This will be the first of its kind in India, with road, rail and waterways to boost domestic and international trade.
The development project includes railway sidings, container terminals, warehousing, non-cargo processing, a truck terminal, common facilities, support infrastructure and equipment.
The Jogighopa project is the first among 35 such MMLP projects identified for implementation across the country and the only one that will be funded completely by the Centre.
Gadkari, in a letter dated October 14 to Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque, had said that the foundation stone laying for construction of first multi-modal logistics park and external trunk connectivity infrastructure under Bharatmala Pariyojana at Jogighopa will be held through video conferencing at 11.30 am on Tuesday.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the park at Jogighopa, which will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 3000 crore, will cover an area of 200 acres. It will be a major step to develop logistical infrastructure, he said.
