Will Environmental Impact Assessment live streaming update be a gamechanger?

NORTHEAST | AUGUST 5, 2020:

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) program will be live-streamed at 6:30 pm today.

Hailing from Shillong, Nafisa Pathaw and Russel Warjri who are regular individuals have come up with this idea to sensitize the younger generation about environmental degradation through the music.

EIA is a tool used to identify the environmental, social, and economic impacts of an Industrial project before decision-making, and this process draws its power from Section 3 of the Environment (Protection) Act (EPA) of India.

Many environmentalists have started a campaign against the government's move to achieve a 5 trillion economy by 2024, which will cause irreparable damage to the environment.

"This EIA Awareness Livestream is to raise awareness about this draft EIA among the citizens of our community, city, and state by understanding the different aspects of EIA and how such a law will affect us and future generations," said Russel Warjri.

"It is not a platform where we bash any government or organization. It is a platform of learning and sharing. "The Tribals should be aware that The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in its India State of Forest Report 2019, stated that about 60 percent of the country's forest cover is in India's tribal districts and Northeast India," he added.

Special guests for today's session are Zorba Laloo, Nida Siddiqui, Upatyaka Dutta, and Robert G Lyngdoh.

The live stream will be through the following integral accounts in Instagram:

The first live streaming happened on August 1, and the third session is likely to be on August 8, 2020.
