UDP blames Congress for political instability in KHADC
SHILLONG: The UDP, in a memorandum submitted to the BJP president Amit Shah today, has blamed the Congress for the ongoing political instability in the KHADC.
UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar pointed out that the Congress led Government went ahead to recommend the imposition of the Administrator's Rule despite ruling coalition enjoys majority which is an alliance of opposition partners.
"The State Government has even refused to comply with the Governor's advice to reconsider the recommendation of the imposition of Administrator's rule. This is a classic case of the Congress's traits of manipulation and subversion of Constitutional authority, wherein even the nominated member was unilaterally proposed by the government and that to, to increase the strength of the Opposition, which defies all logic of democratic practices," Dkhar said.
On the other hand, in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, where the Congress is ruling, he said that the tenure has been unconstitutionally extended three times, in spite of opposition from various quarters adding that this has been apprised to the Central authorities vide our joint memorandum to the Honourable Governor.
He stated that the United Democratic Party- Meghalaya, the largest and only state recognised party, is the result of years of untiring efforts to bring all regional forces under one umbrella, to forge ahead in realising the aspirations of the people for a clean, inclusive and effective government.
"As history will reveal, the constraints that plagued the regional forces have time again enabled the Congress Party to effectively manipulate its way to the seat of government. Money power has been the key tool employed by the Congress, coupled with misuse of constitutional authority by virtue of the Party being at the helm of affairs, then, at New Delhi, which was highly discriminatory in nature, had always given the Congress Party the upper hand. We strongly hope that "acche din a rahe hei", with the sea change of power equations at the National level, and your kind self as the ruling Party's President, can be highly instrumental in augmenting the regional forces, to steer this part of the country to a much better future," Dkhar said.
