Tripura: Tension erupts along Indo-Bangla border in Sabroom

 |

AGARTALA: Tension erupted between Indian construction agencies and the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday after the Indian agencies attempted to construct a wired fence along the international border of Sabroom in South Tripura district.

Reportedly, the BGB objected the move and also opened fire to restrict the fencing work, along the Aailmara area of Sabroom, which is a four-kilometre long unfenced border.

The wired international fencing construction was supposed to be completed by February 28.

The BSF and BGB also met at Maitri Setu, to discuss the issue.

Shops and local markets also closed down after the gun-shots from the BGB forces.

Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sabroom has imposed section 144 around Sabroom town.
