AGARTALA : Tripura Police has registered an FIR against 12 protesting teachers who spearheaded the agitation that turned ugly near the residence of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on January 27.
Reportedly, the police had sent a notice to the teachers to meet the investigating officers within two days.
17 police personnel and 88 people were injured due to police-protestors clash on Wednesday.
The accused teachers have been identified as Kamal Deb, Dalia Das, Bimal Saha, Ajoy Debbarma, Dipankar Debbarma, Prashanta Debbarma, Mintu Debbarma, Bijoy Krishna Saha, Amulya Debbarma, Piyali Dhar, Soma Deb Datta, and Debasish Sarkar.
They have been charged under sections 120 (B), 148, 149, 341, 353, 332, 427, and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Piyali Dhar, who is one amongst the charge-sheeted, said that she has not received any notice from the police.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty claimed that the riot was instigated by the supporters from CPI-M (Communist Party of India Marxist).
"There were a very few sacked teachers present in that agitation. The few handful teachers and anti-social elements backed by CPI-M did all these things," he alleged.
