Tripura observes Vijay Diwas

AGARTALA: Tripura celebrated the 49th Vijay Diwas, in various parts of the state on December 16.

Every year, December 16, is observed as Vijay Diwas, in honour of those brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971.

Agriculture minister Pranjit Singha Roy attended the programme at Post office Chowmuhani, where floral tributes were offered for the Indian soldiers.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel also exchanged sweets with their counterparts in the Border Guards of Bangladesh at different places along the India-Bangladesh border.

It may be noted that Tripura was the war headquarter of Bangladesh liberation soldiers, helping them to launch a guerrilla war against the Pakistani soldiers.

Tripura also sheltered 10 million Bangladeshi nationals during the Indo-Pakistan 1971 war.
