AGARTALA:

The Tripura left front on Wednesday, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding for the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23 to be celebrated as ‘Deshprem Diwas’ (Patriotism Day).

The letter stated that the demand is to honour the invaluable contribution made by Netaji, towards India’s freedom from British rule.

India will celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on January 23.

“In 1996, during the centenary celebration of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday, the then Prime Minister, Government of India had announced, that they would celebrate the birthday of Netaji as ‘Deshprem Divas’. “

“But even after 25 years of such announcement, the Government of India has taken no step towards an official declaration of January 23, as Deshprem Divas,” the letter stated.

It further stated that Netaji’s invaluable contribution to the Freedom Movement requires no explanation.

“His immortal slogan- Unity, Faith and Sacrifice is more relevant even today when our nation is facing multifaceted problems from external and internal divisive forces.”

The letter also stated that all government offices should observe Netaji’s birth anniversary.
