Tripura journalist succumbs to COVID-19

A reporter identified as 46-year-old Jitendra Debbarma of Balaram Thakur Para, Champaknagar, passed away on Tuesday after a week-long battle with COVID-19.

Debbarma also became the first journalist in Tripura to die from the virus.

He was the office cameraman for Chini Khorang TV Channel and was an active member of the Tripura Indigenous People’s Press Association.

“Jitendra was suffering from COVID-19 infection for the last seven days,” said Ranjit Debbarma, the editor of Chini Khorang.

He leaves behind two minor daughters.
