Tripura govt demands for Archaeological regional office in state

The Tripura government has placed a demand before the central ministry to grant another Archaeological regional office for Tripura.

The Tourism Department said that a separate regional office will help the state garner more benefit as eight out of the total 10 Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) monuments of the North-Eastern region are located here in Tripura.

The Tourism Department has requested the central government to expedite the process of development work here at Unakoti, as it is the central attraction of all the heritage sites and ASI controlled places of historical importance.

Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy during a virtual meeting held on October 16 last raised the issue before Union Minister of State Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel and expressed that ASI should take prompt action to develop Unakoti as soon as possible.

The Minister said that the state government has taken all necessary steps to develop tourism in Tripura. However, because of certain restrictions, the development works related to Unakoti came under the control of ASI and they repeatedly approached the ASI for its development.

According to the Minister, they also allotted government land for private entities to have a star category hotel being constructed there in Kailashahar since a huge number of people, tourism enthusiasts, and history scholars used to come here.
