AGARTALA:

The government of Tripura has decided to offer financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of (L) Liton Das, who was abducted on November 27 and subsequently murdered by members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

While addressing reporters on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Deb Barma said that they would provide financial assistance to the family, including possible help in the future.

The murder resulted in a state-wide agitation by the Bengali community, with some having taken to the streets to demand justice.

Barma assured the government would take strict action against the perpetrators, and requested the public to refrain from communalising the issue.

Meanwhile, security forces were deployed in Kanchanpur following the communal tension prevailing in the area.
