Tripura: Fishing Cat caught at Sepahijla district

AGARTALA:

A wild cat was caught in Pathariadar village of Kamalasagar in Sepahijla district on Thursday.

According to sources, the animal was spotted eating poultry in Shantimura area of Pathariadar village. The villagers kept a cage next to the house of one Ratan Baul in which the wild cat got stuck.

The cat was rushed immediately to Sepahijla Sanctuary Hospital.

As per information received from a wildlife expert, the wildcat was a Fishing Cat and they inhabit areas of South and Southeast Asia.

However, fishing cats have been rescued in Tripura in the past..

Since 2016, the Fishing Cat has been listed as ‘Vulnerable’ on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.
