AGARTALA:

Leftist farmers’ organisations have shown their protest by burning the copies of the three controversial agricultural laws during the Lohri festival.

The protest was held at Paradise Square in Agartala on Thursday morning and was attended by Aghor Debabarma, President of the State Committee of the All India Kishan Sabha (AIKS), Pabitra Kar, General Secretary of AIKS, including former MPs Jitendra Chowdhury and Motilal Sarkar.

The protest, organised by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordinating Committee (AISKCC), was a joint forum of various leftist farmers’ organisations, demanding the repeal of the Agriculture Act.

According to the protesting farmers, they had approached the Centre, but to no avail.

However, the Supreme Court intervened in the matter, but farmers’ organisations remain unappeased.
